The Mary Cooper Wildflower Woods
Several years ago Mary Cooper
convinced her friends in the Horticulture Club to
get permission from the administration to clean up an abused wood
lot and turn it into a wildflower park. The administration accepted the idea
and even provided an attractive entry and some benches. Resident
volunteers continue to maintain the Wildflower Woods and make improvements. The Wildflower Woods has
become a jewel of Bristol Village.
Spring is a special time when
residents make frequent trips to the Wildflower Woods to
see the promise and progress of the many varieties of wildflowers now
found there. Mary and her friends have planted a
large variety of both common and rare wildflowers that are a delight to
the senses. From the Aconite and Snowdrops that start blooming in
February, to the Asters and Rudbeckia that bloom through the fall frost,
the Wildflower Woods is a favorite spot for Bristol
Village residents and visitors.
